This has been a time of incredible change and transformation in our world and our musical community. It’s such a joy to reconnect with Gurunam Singh amidst all this change to find out how he’s been handling the pandemic, how music is serving him, and what he looks like now…. WOW!
What are your top tips on how you use music to stay calm?
Gurunam: If I’m tired music is like electricity to get me going- to do anything. The relaxation comes in the aftermath. Oppositely just driving in the car playing mantras and any good music heals me/relaxes me. Sometimes I fall asleep listening to prayers and wake up with them still playing — Then I lie there and listen. That opens the heart. Music keeps the energy and spirits up when needed. Other times you can just add music in to an already Blessed situation. Just make it better. There’s a reason people pack the stadiums to hear good music. You just feel good.
How are you handling life in the current state of the pandemic?
Gurunam: I was alone in a home a few months and without the ability to go into public spaces to have group energy so I went even further into hermit zone than normal. I alternate between touring and being a hermit usually. That extreme opened blessed spaces – high spaces – and darker, lonelier spaces. Now I’m with a few friends basically quarantined but all together and that balances a lot for me – needed friendship – just people to bounce things off of and eat together and that kind of thing. So I feel really blessed. The time’s been growing me – like a tree – some parts of me got twisted and knotty but ultimately just becoming more of me — I have spent a lot more time in nature and that’s been amazingly refreshing. Not touring has helped my body to heal in ways it’s been sick for years.
Are you working on anything new or working in any new ways that you can share?
Gurunam: Ahhh ~ I am for sure. But I want to hold off and keep the space clear around those things for a bit longer.
Gurunam - Changing on the inside and outside – always the beautiful, soft-hearted, spiritual-seeking soul we know and love!
