“Canto por México” is a musical collaboration between Mirabai Ceiba and dear friends. Minuk, who brought in their vocals to create a powerful choir-like setting. Charly García with his absolutely soaring and groovy flutes, and their long time collaborators and friends Jamshied Sharifi and Ben Wittman.
This stunning new song transports you to a mystical and magical world, completely alive with vivid color. Flutes, drums and guitars of various sizes become a rainforest of musical plants, animals, and spirits in this ode to the heart of Mexico- its land, its people, its colors, traditions, and of course, its food.
Angelika shares about its origins: “Having grown up in Mexico, I know how hard it can be to be far away from this land, its people, its colors, the freedom of spirit, the heart connection, the warmth, the traditions, and yes, the food! I’ve had times of deep and painful longing for it all. This song was born from this longing.”
The painting featured in this video and on the artwork for this song is by Geenss Archenti. This powerful painting is of Bacila Tzek Uc, a 95-year old midwife who is the last midwife of an ancestral Mayan lineage from the pueblo, Yaxhachén. We will be sharing more of her story and the artists and filmmakers working to support sharing the message of her work.
"Canto por México" is available on all digital platforms. Immerse yourself in this beautiful celebration of life, beauty and color.
