Ziggy Marley - The Basics:

David Nesta "Ziggy" Marley was born to Rita and Bob Marley on October 17, 1968 in the slums of Trenchtown, Jamaica. Ziggy is Bob Marley's first biological child (he adopted Rita's two older daughters as well), and Rita's first son. Ziggy first performed with his father in 1979 with a number of his other siblings, and that group went on to become The Melody Makers.

The Music of Ziggy Marley:

Ziggy Marley is a prolific reggae recording artist, having made well over a dozen albums with The Melody Makers, as well as two solo albums. His style is similar to that of his father - a roots reggae sound which focuses on messages of brotherhood and social justice. Ziggy also frequently sits in as a guest artist on other musicians' recordings, including those of Angelique Kidjo and Taj Mahal.

Philanthropic Work:

Ziggy Marley is an active philanthropist, using his well-known name to bring light to a variety of social causes. He has his own charitable organization called U.R.G.E. (United Resources Giving Enlightenment), which is focused on the needs of the world's children: education, health care, and so on. He has also worked with youth AIDS prevention charities and children's musical education groups.
