- Using Your Mala: A mala can be used with either hand. Always start with the first bead after the main or 'Guru' bead. As you repeat your mantra, move each bead with the thumb towards the body over the meridian point on your middle finger(see below). As you progress, the Guru bead first descends and then ascends on the other sound. When you reach the Guru bead, repeat teh mantra and make a prayer. To begin again, turn the mala around and continue from the start again.
While meditating, you can have your mala stimulating different meridian points by moving over your different fingers.
