When you speak, you stimulate nerve endings in the lips and the roof of the mouth; when you chant you stimulate the conches and the entire skull, thereby creating a vibratory affect on the pituitary, pineal and thalamus glands. The pituitary hangs from a stalk and it swings in a figure eight and then reverses its motion; clockwise, then counter-clockwise. This movement relates to the hormone releasing timing in the brain. Endocrinologists are now studying these cycles of hormone release, in order to time the release of medicines with the natural cycles of the body.
