We listened to this album on this whole tour – it’s so fun and uplifting . When the going got tough, it felt like Gurunam was with us on tour saying “Come on guys, keep up, be strong.”

Pavan Pavan is my favorite. I use this CD while I drive my carpools!

This album was my first real introduction to Kundalini Yoga music. It drew me in, and I have not been able to stop listening to it, and now looking further into the practice of Kundalini Yoga.

Description

Gurunam Singh's debut album that will flow through you with such warmth and fullness, you will feel deeply comforted by its rich textures, talented instrumentation, and the deep, fluid timber of Gurunam's voice. These chants are sure to quickly become your favorites! The music evokes Americana sensibilities woven together with traditional Indian instruments, creating a warmth of sound that is inviting and entrancing. Producer Hans Christian expertly fused the sounds of harmonium, bass, cello, sarod, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, keyboards, dumbek, tablas, djun djun drum and frame drum.

Gurunam has harnessed the musical devotion that has built in his music over the last 15 years. You will hear flavors of Krishna Das and James Taylor in the deep, smooth textures of Gurunam's voice. His compositions were written in the framework of his yogic lifestyle and are ideal to chant along with.

Each track has a unique flavor, and yet they seamlessly flow from one to another to create an album that is great for yoga or meditation. This album also makes you want to jump in your car, turn up the volume, and find a long country road to drive peacefully down.

On the track Dukh Par Har, you will hear an amazing call and response between Yogi Bhajan and Gurunam. Yogi Bhajan's chant was taken from a lecture he gave to his students and his voice was mixed in with this composition to stunning effect.

Gurunam Singh

When Gurunam Singh graduated high school he was given a guitar and began composing simple songs. At 22 he found Yogi Bhajan and Sikh Dharma. He sang and played along with others and over time began leading chants in the early morning hours, before the rising of the sun. He spent lots of time in the solitude of his own home, and in the Sikh temple late at night, chanting to God and writing devotional songs. Gurunam's influences range from gospel, folk and country to classical Indian raag and traditional Sikh hymns to many of the current artists who sing devotional Hindu chants. He occasionally studied with some great ragi's such as Bhai Avtar Singh, from India, and Dya Singh from Australia. But his music is very simple. Anyone can chant along.

This album is awesome all around. The Pavan Pavan is my favorite that is on CD. The Dukh par har is really upbeat and fun. It has yogi bhajan's voice on it which makes it special in a whole different way. The Ong Namo is fresh.

Gurunam Singh

I was real impressed with the Journey Home. I have a number of Yoga mixes I practise to and I've added Gurunam's songs to the 'inspirational' part of these. Also was equally impressed with the overall production. Spirit Vovage, your musical skills are tops!
-- Dave Frenz.

Gurunam is on his way back from India to record his next album. Keep an eye out for it June 2010. We just bought a recorder for him to record sounds of Punjab that will be interspersed through the album. Album will be produced by Hans Christian.

I would like to be in touch with Gurunam Singh- we would like for him to come and play at our Kundalini festival we are planning for May 2010 in Asheville, NC
