DescriptionMother of the Buddhas is the 2nd CD from world music innovator Kirby Shelstad, and serves as the followup to one of our long-time favorites, "Dewachen/ Land of Bliss". In this epic new work, Kirby presents a musical offering of ancient Tibetan and Sanskrit texts in a rich and elaborate setting full of devotion, spirit and energy. In the Tibetan schools of Buddhism, the noble lady Tara is known as the 'Mother of the Buddhas compassion' while the Prajnaparamita is known as the 'Mother of the Buddhas wisdom'. It includes 'The 21 Praises to Tara' and 'The Heart Sutra'. These long journey-like tracks mix elaborate multi-tracked chanting with deep earthy grooves for a result that is perfect for yoga, massage and relaxation. Kirby provides the vocal layering, and plays Lap Steel Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Tabla, Talking Drum, Tar, Drumset, Synthesizers, Piano, Bass, Electric Mbira, cymbals, gongs, shakers, bells, gobichand, zither, finger cymbals, tanpura & tambourines. Sam Bacco adds gongs, cymbals & concert bass drum, while Larry Chaney plays space guitar and acoustic guitar. The four long tracks are given plenty of time and space to develop, and the final two tracks again feature the backing vocals of Beth Nielsen Chapman who also sang on "Dewachen/Land of Bliss". Kirby's music has been used by some of the top yoga teachers in the country for their videos and CDs, such as Brian Kest's Power Yoga series, Erich Schiffman's yoga videos and Cyndi Lee's Om Yoga in a box. Of all the texts on Tara, the 21 Praises is the most famous, and of all the texts in Mahayana Buddhism, the Prajnaparamita is the supreme guide. "Mother of the Buddhas" was composed and created with devout intention & the listeners journey in mind. May it be of great benefit.
