Description

[Four double CDs plus a 194 page booklet.]

The universal message of music has the ability to "touch" everyone and so transposes the written words of the Shabad to a psychological level; differing sounds have direct effects on the mind, body and soul. Through the use of Raags these effects have been harnessed to explain and enhance the message of Siri Guru Granth Sahib . In order for the message to remain as the Guru intended, each Shabad has been prescribed a specific Raag.

This is the first time in 500 years that such a project has been completed, furthermore it encompasses a variety of music styles and dialects throughout India, to reflect the location and mood of the shabads when they were originally composed by the Sikh Gurus.

Mer‚ Mun is the first project ever to record a collection of Shabads representing the entire system of Siri Adi Granth Sahib according to the traditional musical concept prescribed by Guru Arjan Dev Ji!

The shabad melodies are composed and sung by Professor Surinder Singh, naturally gifted with a melodious and resonant voice ideally suited for capturing the vibrant emotions, hues, and colors of the ragas. His concept of form and styles in this production is informed by his in-depth study of Indian musicology. Accompanying him on a vast array of Indian instruments, and with arrangements by Pandit Brij Narayan, are some of the world?s greatest known artists of Indian Classical Music.

This is a limited collector?s set (4,000) of 8 CDs and comes complete with details of each of the ragas and translations of the compositions.

This collection, presented by Sikh Musical Heritage, is a must for Sikhs and educators of the Shabad Guru and for Indian Classical Music enthusiasts alike. Professor Surinder Singh, an acknowledged authority on Gurmat Sangeet (the Guru?s Music), has dedicated these CDs to performance of Gurbani as prescribed in the Siri Guru Granth Sahib. Listening to the CDs, one experiences elevation of spirit and a touch of the Grace of God.

PS: All proceeds to the Sikh Musical Heritage Project from the sale of Mer‚ Mun will be used to fund similar educational projects in the near future: The Vaara(n) and Dhuniya of Siri Guru Granth Sahib and the Dasam Granth.
