"Through this shabd one develops reverence and sacredness in relationships with women. It takes away mother phobias and anger." This is a beautiful prayer recited for opening one up to the divine feminine energyl. For a man, it can be used to elevate his communication with the women in his life. It is also something very special he can do for his partner or spouse. The words are very humbling. They leave no room for excuses for wrong treatment or thinking in relation to a woman and allow man to view and treat women in the elevated manner that the poem itself describes. In the same way that many women recite the `Sopurkh` prayer for the man or men in their lives, men can recite this Bhand Jamee-ai prayer for a woman. When a woman recites this prayer, it empowers her and gives her the dignity that is her birthright. Along with Sopurkh meditaiton, this is a primary shabd for the graceful woman who wants her prayers to bless her relationships, her family and her world. In the daily prayer of the Sikhs, Ardas, it states that before meditating on any of the gurus, one must first and formost meditate on the the Feminine Primal Power. In other words, the divine feminine is the doorway to reach the guru. Without honoring this, it is very difficult to proceed. The gurus knew this and taught it. Without the sweetness, kindness, love, strength and wisdom of the divine feminine, don`t bother to continue the rest of this prayer. Meditate on this first, then meditate on the gurus. When Gurunam Singh graduated high school he was given a guitar and began composing simple songs. At 22 he found Yogi Bhajan and Sikh Dharma. He sang and played along with others and over time began leading chants in the early morning hours, before the rising of the sun. He spent lots of time in the solitude of his own home, and in the Sikh temple late at night, chanting to God and writing devotional songs. Gurunam's influences range from gospel, folk and country to classical Indian raag and traditional Sikh hymns to many of the current artists who sing devotional Hindu chants. He occasionally studied with some great ragi's such as Bhai Avtar Singh, from India, and Dya Singh from Australia. But his music is very simple. Anyone can chant along.

There are some guitar licks on Gobinday Mukunday that remind me of the Grateful Dead's song The Wheel. One interpretation of the meaning of the original poem sounds very much like the meaning that I get out of The Wheel.

I saw Gurunam Singh play Jai Te Gong live at Summer Solstice and was blown away. I've seen all sorts of heavy metal bands over the years and his performance of that Shabad made me feel what Bir Ras is all about, I felt like he should be playing live in front of 30,000 warriors ready to go to battle...

I was real impressed with the Journey Home. I have a number of Yoga mixes I practise to and I've added Gurunam's songs to the 'inspirational' part of these. Also was equally impressed with the overall production. Spirit Vovage, your musical skills are tops!
Gurunam is on his way back from India to record his next album. Keep an eye out for it June 2010. We just bought a recorder for him to record sounds of Punjab that will be interspersed through the album. Album will be produced by Hans Christian.
