Description
A masterly crafted morning Sadhana album with smooth guitar, soulful vocals and gentle viola and clarinet weaving in and out of this set of morning mantras, given by Yogi Bhajan to help us with the transition into the Aquarian Age. What sets this CD apart from most other Sadhana CDs is that it includes a live recording of the Morning Call (Long Ek Ong Kars), the first in the set of seven mantras prescribed by Yogi Bhajan, which he said was the keystone mantra - a secret of the divine, designed for the uplift of all. Together with the other six, more melodious mantra tracks, this CD delivers an authentic version of the full and specific technology practice given by Yogi Bhajan.

This album was recorded live in the Amrit Vela (the period two-and-a-half hours before sunrise) with guitar, bass, tabla and vocals to capture the authentic Aquarian Sadhana experience. Other instruments were added later to create a fantastic richness and depth that keeps the listener engaged in an arrangement that relaxes the body and sustains the mind throughout the practice. The intense power of this album comes in part from its unique, tightly structured arrangement of melody and cadence, which follows the natural flow of the naad in its purest form. The rhythm and pacing of the mantras is such that it entrains the mind and brings the mantras to their state of highest potency.

Japa consulted masters such as Dr. Hari Simran Singh Khalsa and Jot Singh Khalsa on different facets of the album’s musicianship and presentation in order to produce a sadhana set, and ultimately, an entire experience that brings the listener/practitioner into a state of oneness with the divine. The version experience that brings the listener/practitioner into a state of oneness with the divine. The version of Wahe Guru Wahe Jio itself is an exercise in mental focus as well as pranayam that keeps the mind locked in a powerful state, leading to a sensation of pure, unspeakable bliss. The CD concludes with an uplifting and sweet melodic rendition of the chant to Guru Ram Das helps to seal the experience with a blessing of true healing, protection and feeling of that state of ultimate, indescribable ecstasy, of waheguru!

Japa Kaur More by Artist/Author Top

Japa Kaur, originally from Maine, came to California after high school then studied music, art and communication for four years, graduating with a double degree from Stanford University.  During her junior year, she found Kundalini Yoga, a practice that she resonated with right away and engaged in through workshops in the San Francisco Ashram, weekly classes in Palo Alto, and 3HO summer and winter solstice events. In 2002 she completed her Level I yoga teacher’s training with Sat Santokh Singh and Prahbu Nam Kaur in San Leandro, California and began teaching Kundalini Yoga right away.

Since then Japa has studied increasingly on the musical aspect of the tradition, focusing her training on vocal technique, pronunciation and rhythmic understanding of the mantras used in the practice. In 2008 she completed a Sound Healing Program from Globe Institute in San Francisco, California, giving her a broader understanding of specific musical techniques used to harness and transmit through the healing power of sound. Taking this to an experienced musical trainer and voice professor, she has worked to develop, refine, and strengthen her voice to where she is now ready to step out onto the world stage.

Her first project album, The Aquarian Sadhana, is a beautiful rendition of the morning mantras prescribed by Yogi Bhajan, as well as a testimony to her talent and a preview of the kind of music to come. Right now Japa is working on her next album, a set of chant-along mantras, as well as a third project, a set of Japa originals.

Currently Japa continues her practice through the participation in Level 2 Kundalini Training modules, while teaching regularly at a homeless shelter for women in downtown San Francisco. She maintains a professional Astrological practice writing columns and doing private chart readings, while also teaching occasionally at her very first yoga class on Tuesday nights in Palo Alto, now known as One Heart Yoga.

Japa performs Kirtans and other musical events throughout the Bay Area as well as the rest of the United States and the world! She performs with other teachers, also traveling and sharing through workshops and retreats, adding the element of music to performances, talks, and festivals. She draws on her diverse cultural, spiritual, educational experiences to color and invigorate her music, making it a powerful, healing, upbeat, joyful and unique experience for all.

"This mantra brings prosperity, happiness, and saves us from calamities.  It is the sound current which brings a shield and brings good luck and removes discomfort and disease.  It is the key to the doorway of self elevation."  - Yogi Bhajan

Here are instructions for practicing this meditation:

Posture: Sit in easy pose.

Focus: Eyes are closed and focused at the third-eye point.

Mantra: Har Har Har Har Gobinday - Har Har Har Har Mukanday - Har Har Har Har Udaray - Har Har Har Har Aparay - Har Har Har Har Hariang - Har Har Har Har Kariang - Har Har Har Har Nirnamay - Har Har Har Har Akamay

Mudra: Bend your elbows so that your hands are comfortable in front of you at approximately shoulder height.  Chant the mantra.  When you chant the word 'Har,' quickly open and close your hands as you pull the navel point in and up.  Repeat these actions each time you chant 'Har.'

Time: 11 minutes.

End: Inhale deeply, hold your breath.  Exhale and relax.
