Bachan Kaur Bachan Kaur's musical history began when she was a young girl and would sing songs and stories for hours on the toilet or spinning in the backyard. She stopped singing over time like most of us as we move into the stages beyond our uninhibited youth. With time though, by the grace of God, something re-opened when she was in her teenage years. The creative spirit of song began to move again and at the age of 16 she started to learn the guitar and write and record songs. Around 18 she discovered the sacred technology of Kundalini Yoga and a few years later the path of Sikh Dharma. This path was like the vessel that the soul had been longing for, to deliver the sound current that flows within. As a self- taught musician, the gift in Bachan's music is her simplicity, purity and devotion
Bachan Kaur is a visual artist, sacred musician and Teacher of Kundalini Yoga and meditation. As a child she could often be found drawing, singing or whirling in the backyard. It seems some things carry on throughout adulthood... In her teens, Bachan put creativity in the background while she explored her love of the earth through environmental awareness and organic agriculture. However, her meditation practice eventually led her back to the path of the artist. She changed her degree from Agricultural Sciences and completed instead with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from UBC. She has held four painting exhibitions in British Columbia. Her love of Mother Earth still pervades her life as an artist in the production choices she makes. Her cds are printed on 100% recycled cardstock with no jewel cases(though she encourages downloads which create no waste) and is continually finding ways to reproduce art prints and cards on recylced paper.
Born in Guelph, Ontario, Madeleine kept her eyes closed for two weeks. Not being sure about coming down to earth, has been a theme in her life and art. However, after moving to Vancouver with her family in 1999, she began to practice Kundalini Yoga for which she is so grateful. This practice has helped to teach her balance between the heavens and the earth and is the inspiration for much of her work. She is now known to most people as Bachan Kaur which is her destiny name given byher spiritual Teacher Yogi Bhajan , meaning princess of promise. Along with the practice of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation, came an ever growing love for music, singing and chanting. Bachan found a new medium for her creativity, deep devotion and love of life...sound! She frequently leads groups in chanting and devotional music and enjoys working with multi-faith groups. She has released 4 self-produced mantra/ meditation Cds . She is continually working on new arrangements and recordings and has 3 new cds that she is working on. Her vision is to one day help lead an "Amazing Aquarian Gospel Choir" creating unique and inspiring devotional choral music that blends people of diverse paths together through the power of sound.
Along the way she met her beloved husband Rama Singh, who funnily enough is from Guelph as well (though they met in New Mexico at a Kundalini Yoga festival!) They were married in August 2006 and have recently moved to the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia. They are both very grateful to be living in the embrace of nature which supports their work, her as an artist and he as an eco-home builder. They continue to teach Kundalini Yoga and are part of a community whichis developing a sacred healing and meditation centre on the Sunshinecoast. They are excited to create a family in the future.

| Episode Description | Episode Date | Download | | Special Guest: Simrit Kaur | Thursday, July 28, 2011 | | Joe Panzetta is a Seattle based musician, yoga & meditation instructor, and graphic designer. He has been practicing Kundalini Yoga since 1996 and was certified to teach in 2001. Joe is also a student and practitioner of Taoism and Buddhism with particular interest in Zen. "Sat Sangeet" is Panzetta's 6th CD, in which he combines for the first time his passions for music and meditation. His professional musical background started in 1989 in Milwaukee where he and Peter Mulvey fronted the band Big Sky. Over the years since then he has grown into a multi-instrumentalist performer, composer and producer. Recorded largely at his home, "Sat Sangeet" features Panzetta on vocals, harmonium, guitar, percussion, bouzouki, tamboura, bass, and banjo (while also featuring many wonderful guest performances including tabla by Ravi Albright and vocals by Sat Purkh Kaur Khalsa). | Joe was blessed with the spiritual name "Sat Sangeet Singh" by Yogi Bhajan in 2002, which means "lion of true divine music". He leads kirtan in Seattle with his trio including Ravi Albright on tabla, Vincent Gates on guitar, and Joe on harmonium and vocals. Joe also teaches Kundalini Yoga and meditation weekly and is active in the Seattle Sangat. Joe is also the Creative Director at the software company, Atigeo. The creative process has been an ongoing study of his since his days as a theatre major at Marquette university. For over 20 years he has studied the experience of creation that both artists and scientists share – that spark of inspiration where something comes out of nothing, and then gets coaxed into form. He teaches workshops that investigate the creative process and its' relationship with meditation and yoga, and teaches private sessions on what he calls "stealth meditation" - the practice of being mindful while out in the world and meditating without anyone knowing you're doing it. Joe says this of his journey with Kundalini Yoga: "Kundalini Yoga is a true blessing. It is a practice of affecting the body’s vibration quickly and on a cellular level. This allows the negative vibrations we carry with us from the stresses and demands of life to be replaced with those that are balanced and in harmony with the Whole. The experience is one of grounding, strength and elevation. Sat Nam.”. |
