Description
The Rumi symphony is a glowing, magical, passionate and profoundly inspiring journey into the heart of the world’s greatest mystic’s experience of divine love. It is a collaboration between Andrew Harvey, internationally acclaimed spiritual teacher, Rumi scholar and translator, and the world renowned musician and composer, Hans Christian.

The journey is in four parts: in the first, “The Call” Rumi’s words arouse the heart to the core of the beloved. In the second, “Falling in Love”, the heart opens to the ecstasy of the love of the beloved. In the third “The Dark Night” the heart undergoes the death into eternal life. In the fourth, “Divine Union” the heart revels in the peace and passion of identity with God. This sublime symphony will prove an ideal inspiration for your meditation and your search for God. An instrumental version of the Rumi Syphony is also included as a second CD.

Rumi is the world’s greatest and most passionate and inspiring mystical poet. He combined the philosophical intellect of a Plato or Kant and the soul force and grandeur of a Buddha or Christ with the sublime literary gifts of a Shakespeare. As millions of seekers of whatever religion or persuasion all over the world now know: Rumi’s extraordinary words have an unique power and initiatory effect. The return of Rumi to the consciousness of the world is one of the great forces behind our global mystical renaissance.

For many years Andrew Harvey dreamed of creating with a great musician, a Rumi Symphony that would fuse together his translations and freshly composed music in a complete unfolding of Rumi’s vision of the path of divine love and passion. When he heard Hans Christian’s profound and wonderful playing during an initiation into the Chartres Mystery School of Wisdom University in France, he was overwhelmed with joy and knew that he had at last found the musician and composer that had the musical virtuosity and depth of spirit that could create exactly what he had dreamed of.

This holy work, The Rumi Symphony is the child of the marriage of their hearts and gifts.

The music of this symphony carries Hans Christian’s unique combination of instruments that crosses any familiar stylistic boundaries and genres. At times passionate and rousing, then again languishing and wanting, with assertive rhythms that are contrasted by deeply sensitive spaces, the music works on multiple levels to transport the listener into the world of spirit and mystique.

Hans Christian

Producer, Composer, Engineer, and Musician all under one hat. Hans Christian's work in all of these capacities has been documented on countless recording projects, from his participation as a cellist, bass player or multi-instrumentalist, to his collaborations with other artists as a producer and engineer, and to his works as a composer of solo recordings and of RASA's CDs.

Hans Most of Hans' musical life was spend in recording studios- from first recordings at age 16 with a local flamenco group called Duo Flamenco in his home town Hannover, Germany; to recordings in Hamburg at the famous Deutsche Gramophon studios and a local facility called Studio Hafenklang. From there he went to Hollywood to pursue a life as bassist and cellist, performing and recording first with local underground bands and later with popular artists (Robbie Robertson, Sparks, Toni Childs, Gene Clark, and others). Picking up clues from recognized producers T-Bone Burnett, Chad Blake, Daniel Lanois, Mitchel Froom (all of whom he met during sessions) and others, Hans developed a foundation for his work as a composer, producer, and engineer.

His first instrument being the cello, Hans' musicality evolved around Western classical music. Technique and discipline were the building blocks for his musical education, although these were quickly augmented with his choice of the bass guitar as a second instrument (and leading to the subsequent immersion in rock music). The foundation for a rich musical career was thus prepared. His interest in World Music, especially from India, led him to pick up the Indian sarangi and sitara (a small customized sitar) and the Scandinavian nyckelharpa. Hans has played on countless albums, given hundreds of concerts, and produced many projects, including his collaborations with Kim Waters under the name RASA and several recent solo recordings.

Recent projects include new solo instrumental releases called Undefended Heart, Sancta Camisia and Cinema Of Dreams and two new releases with RASA- Temple Of Love and Saffron Blue. His work as a producer and mix engineer keep him busy with ongoing projects throughout the country, ranging stylistically from classical and folk to electronic and Indian devotional music. Hans also recently signed with Banshee Music as a staff composer for TV and advertising.

Here are instructions for practicing this meditation:

Posture: Sit in easy pose.

Focus: Eyes are closed and focused at the third-eye point.

Mantra: Har Har Har Har Gobinday - Har Har Har Har Mukanday - Har Har Har Har Udaray - Har Har Har Har Aparay - Har Har Har Har Hariang - Har Har Har Har Kariang - Har Har Har Har Nirnamay - Har Har Har Har Akamay

Mudra: Bend your elbows so that your hands are comfortable in front of you at approximately shoulder height.  Chant the mantra.  When you chant the word 'Har,' quickly open and close your hands as you pull the navel point in and up.  Repeat these actions each time you chant 'Har.'

Time: 11 minutes.

End: Inhale deeply, hold your breath.  Exhale and relax.
