Sat Purkh Kaur Khalsa''s voice along with the beautiful instrumentals and back-up singers makes this a favorite of mine, especially the first song - the clarinet tones were beautifully haunting. Love it. I use it a lot in my yoga classes.

Description
From the soaring French Horns and battle drums in Ajai Alai to the quiet lullaby that is Maha Goddess Mantra, and from the sweeping sounds of the bagpipe in Mangala Saaj Bha-i-aa to the Afro Pop beat in Say Saraswati, Queen Be combines the musical traditions from as far as West Africa to the Scottish Highlands to contemporary American Jazz. Queen Be celebrates the Goddess within all of us; may she serve you as you continue to grow and serve your own identity.

Every track on Queen Be takes you on a journey around the world and back again. Influenced by music from many traditions, I wanted this album to reflect the diversity of our global community of Kundalini Yoga practitioners and teachers.

As a Kundalini Yogi, I’ve wanted to record some of these mantras for years, mainly because I wanted a sound that matched my own practice. I wanted an Ajai Alai that would energize me, that would match the courage and strength that I experience from Guru Gobind Singh. With a strong 6-beat rhythm, Ajai Alai opens lyrically and then carries you away on the drums of war. Meditate or practice gatkaa with this track and awaken the spiritual warrior within!

The kora and calabash on Say Saraswati, along with the Afro Pop beat of the bass, sweep you away to the shores of Mother Africa. This has long been one of my favorite mantras—and with this version, we celebrate, together, the sweetness and the simplicity of the steady, primal beat of a woman’s heart.

Jai Ma! is a celebration of the Ma from four different traditions, culminating in our own Kundalini Bhakti Mantra: Adi Shakti. Remastered for release on this album, we’ve added cello to support the sound throughout, as well as, new vocals to celebrate the creativity and healing of the sacred mother, which is found in the simplicity of the human voice.

Recorded, Mixed & Mastered by Jon Gagan, Electric Company Studio, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Produced by Sat Purkh Kaur Khalsa, Chiaroscuro Productions—Light is both wave and particle.

A Note to Kundalini Yoga Teachers and Practitioners:

I’ve done my best to make these tracks both musical and functional within a Kundalini Yoga kriya. Three mantras are clearly for use in meditations: Sat Narayan Hari Narayan, Say Saraswati and Ajai Alai. The chanting in each is 11 minutes and the musical interludes in Ajai Alai and Say Saraswati are the length of one recitation, so you can continue chanting over the music. Jai Ma! is great for celestial communications as well as other shorter meditations (6 minutes) with the Kundalini Bhakti Mantra. The remaining songs are primarily for relaxation or individual practice of the shabad recitation meditations.

Sat Purkh Kaur Khalsa More by Artist/Author Top

Sat Purkh Kaur Khalsa has been singing for as long as she can remember. Her journey with the sound current began many years ago and doesn’t seem to have an end—instead it has become an infinite quest for the anahat, or unstruck sound.

A student of sound for more than 15 years, she integrates the Naad into her music, teaching, and healing practices. She has studied with some of the great Sound practitioners in the West: David Hykes, Shanti Shivani, and Pandit Mukesh Desai and is also influenced by the the Shabd Guru—the sound current in the Sikh tradition.  Her music focuses on using sound to move the body, the mind and the breath toward powerful transformative experiences that uplift the individual and serve the soul.

A writer, editor, poet, singer and songwriter—and a pretty good cook, too—Sat Purkh serves as Editor and Creative Director of the Kundalini Research Institute.  This is her third album of sacred music including Nectar of the Name and Beautiful Day. She recently authored Everyday Grace: The Art of Being a Woman, an introduction to women's teachings of Yogi BhajanShe lives with her two cats Fatty and Slim, and her dog, Vinnie.

In these challenging times, we wanted to share a meditation for prosperity and happiness and give you the music as a free download.  So add this to your cart and get a free download!!
"This mantra brings prosperity, happiness, and saves us from calamities.  It is the sound current which brings a shield and brings good luck and removes discomfort and disease.  It is the key to the doorway of self elevation."  - Yogi Bhajan

Here are instructions for practicing this meditation:

Posture: Sit in easy pose.

Focus: Eyes are closed and focused at the third-eye point.

Mantra: Har Har Har Har Gobinday - Har Har Har Har Mukanday - Har Har Har Har Udaray - Har Har Har Har Aparay - Har Har Har Har Hariang - Har Har Har Har Kariang - Har Har Har Har Nirnamay - Har Har Har Har Akamay

Mudra: Bend your elbows so that your hands are comfortable in front of you at approximately shoulder height.  Chant the mantra.  When you chant the word 'Har,' quickly open and close your hands as you pull the navel point in and up.  Repeat these actions each time you chant 'Har.'

Time: 11 minutes.

End: Inhale deeply, hold your breath.  Exhale and relax.
