Description
Sat Purkh?s voice draws you in from the first note. Rich, silky and undeniably expansive, you will eagerly accompany her on this eclectic journey through styles, languages and religious traditions on Nectar of the Name. Sat Purkh seamlessly blends Gurmukhi songs with beautiful English poetry. On Nectar of the Name, her debut album, there is a simple and stunning blend of instrumentation on soul-stirring vocals that are not to be missed.

Her Gurumukhi songs blend traditional melodies and instrumentation with Western compositions and rhythms. Beautiful sitar, tar, keyboards, guitar, trumpet, flute, piano, fiddle, tabla, bongos, and frame drum work together to bring her unique musical style to life.

Sat Purkh has found peace with the spiritual tradition of the Sikhs and the music gives her voice a place for it, but you can hear the soulful church influences of her childhood in some of her English vocals, including the opening track Aisa Nam and "The One I Love" - a track from a song by Gina Sal  based on a line from Hafiz, the well-known Sufi poet that could as easily be a country Christian soundtrack.

The title track, Nectar of the Name, is an amazing choral experiment in calling out the names of God from all faiths. An almost purely vocal track, the layers of vocals layer upon each other slowly in waves, intimately weaving together, and presenting the interconnectedness of all faiths as they slowly merge into a single, beautiful sound.

The grand finale of the album, Guru Dev, is a high-energy Latin-flavored chant with incredible Spanish flute and trumpet accompanied by a multitude of drums from around the world that will have you exalting in the joy of ecstatic chant.

Sat Purkh Kaur Khalsa More by Artist/Author Top

Sat Purkh Kaur Khalsa has been singing for as long as she can remember. Her journey with the sound current began many years ago and doesn’t seem to have an end—instead it has become an infinite quest for the anahat, or unstruck sound.

A student of sound for more than 15 years, she integrates the Naad into her music, teaching, and healing practices. She has studied with some of the great Sound practitioners in the West: David Hykes, Shanti Shivani, and Pandit Mukesh Desai and is also influenced by the the Shabd Guru—the sound current in the Sikh tradition.  Her music focuses on using sound to move the body, the mind and the breath toward powerful transformative experiences that uplift the individual and serve the soul.

A writer, editor, poet, singer and songwriter—and a pretty good cook, too—Sat Purkh serves as Editor and Creative Director of the Kundalini Research Institute.  This is her third album of sacred music including Nectar of the Name and Beautiful Day. She recently authored Everyday Grace: The Art of Being a Woman, an introduction to women's teachings of Yogi BhajanShe lives with her two cats Fatty and Slim, and her dog, Vinnie.

Queen Bee is the best yet from Sat Purkh Kaur. This accomplished woman, born with an amazing musical talent, has gathered around her a perfect accompaniment of presentation to offer this sophisticated, yet heart-centered gift. Bravo!

In these challenging times, we wanted to share a meditation for prosperity and happiness and give you the music as a free download.  So add this to your cart and get a free download!!
"This mantra brings prosperity, happiness, and saves us from calamities.  It is the sound current which brings a shield and brings good luck and removes discomfort and disease.  It is the key to the doorway of self elevation."  - Yogi Bhajan

Here are instructions for practicing this meditation:

Posture: Sit in easy pose.

Focus: Eyes are closed and focused at the third-eye point.

Mantra: Har Har Har Har Gobinday - Har Har Har Har Mukanday - Har Har Har Har Udaray - Har Har Har Har Aparay - Har Har Har Har Hariang - Har Har Har Har Kariang - Har Har Har Har Nirnamay - Har Har Har Har Akamay

Mudra: Bend your elbows so that your hands are comfortable in front of you at approximately shoulder height.  Chant the mantra.  When you chant the word 'Har,' quickly open and close your hands as you pull the navel point in and up.  Repeat these actions each time you chant 'Har.'

Time: 11 minutes.

End: Inhale deeply, hold your breath.  Exhale and relax.
