Description
Hum Dhum - Tantric style call and answer meditation used by Yogi Bhajan throughout the world.

This mantra has been chanted since ancient times to open the heart and create a powerful force for communication. Guru Gobind Singh is credited with saying that this ancient mantra contained the rhythm of the beat of a galloping horse. Hum is a mantra meaning the God within ourselves, Dhum signifies the God outside. Microcosm and macrocosm. Har is the creative power of the universe. Sing with it, dance to it or exercise with it.

We recorded this mantra at the Mexican Yoga / Art festival at the Iztac Center in the spring of 2007 in a beautiful handmade adobe / wood yurt with a straw covered floor. The center sits at the foot of the Iztacihuatl Volcano. It was recorded mostly live in the minutes and hours in between the busy schedule of the festival, with the singers and players drawn from the participants in the festival.
,br> Waheguru - Tantric style call and answer meditation used throughout the world.

We will use the mantra of Wahe Guru chanted in a special form and rhythm. It is a Guru Mantra that means; the ecstasy of God-consciousness that is beyond words to express.

Sit in easy pose with the elbows straight and hands in gyan mudra. Close the eyelids, concentrate at the brow point (third eye) and chant the mantra as follows with each breath.

Waheguru, Waheguru,
WaheWahe Waheguru.
Waheguru, Waheguru,
WaheWahe Waheguru.
When the breath is out, inhale a deep and rapid breath and repeat.
Enter a divine sound current and listen to the sound within. Continue for 11 to 31 minutes. To finish, inhale and concentrate the energy at the top of the head.

Note - The chanting was recorded in tantric style (men and women alternating.) However, to do the meditation as it was given you may sing every line.

"This mantra brings prosperity, happiness, and saves us from calamities.  It is the sound current which brings a shield and brings good luck and removes discomfort and disease.  It is the key to the doorway of self elevation."  - Yogi Bhajan

Here are instructions for practicing this meditation:

Posture: Sit in easy pose.

Focus: Eyes are closed and focused at the third-eye point.

Mantra: Har Har Har Har Gobinday - Har Har Har Har Mukanday - Har Har Har Har Udaray - Har Har Har Har Aparay - Har Har Har Har Hariang - Har Har Har Har Kariang - Har Har Har Har Nirnamay - Har Har Har Har Akamay

Mudra: Bend your elbows so that your hands are comfortable in front of you at approximately shoulder height.  Chant the mantra.  When you chant the word 'Har,' quickly open and close your hands as you pull the navel point in and up.  Repeat these actions each time you chant 'Har.'

Time: 11 minutes.

End: Inhale deeply, hold your breath.  Exhale and relax.
