What better way to celebrate our wonderful teacher then to gather for his birthday? For those that were not aware, Yogi Bhajan’s Birthday is on August 26th and every year communities throughout the world get together to honor him on this day. If you are going to a gathering or thinking of hosting one or just want to celebrate on your own, Spirit Voyage has you covered. Here is what you need to know:
Yogi Bhajan Birthday Celebration Schedule:
1) Reading of Japji
2) 2 1/2 hours of chanting Long Ek Ong Kar
You can do this a capella and alternate group leaders. You can also use a recording so that the group can resonate with that has a consistent rhythm. I recommend using:
Joseph Michael Levry- The Seal of Higher Destiny- Ek Ong Kar (version 1)
Very deep version and transcends you deep within the Naad. 31 minutes.
Guru Singh- Guru Singh Experience Vol. 1- Ek Ong Kar
Very steady rhythm and very easy to chant along with. 24 total minutes.
Of course you can use any other Morning Call from one of the sadhana albums as well like Japa Kaur’s Morning Call or Dev Suroop Kaur’s on Radiance. These are both really nice and easy to resonate with. You would need to loop them as they are only 7 minutes long.
3) 11 minutes chanting Guru Guru Wahe Guru Ram Das Guru.
This is scheduled for 6am Atlantic (3am Pacific) and people all over the world will be joining in at this same time.
I recommend the following versions for this chant:
Gurunam Singh-Guru Ram Das Meditation

Mirabai Ceiba- Flores- Guru Ram Das
This is one of my absolute favorites of this mantra and it is 13 minutes total. This will take you to another plane.
In addition to the traditional schedule, you can close the chanting with Hari Bhajan’s On This Day followed by Long Time Sun.
On this Day is known as the birthday song that Yogi Bhajan would often play. It is also used in a number of meditations.
Then of course there is A Master’s Request by Dev Suroop Kaur that was written to celebrate Yogi Bhajan’s life.
Try also Snatam Kaur's Teree Meher da Bolanaa from Connect and Heal, which connects you to the energy of the Golden Chain and Yogi Bhajan.
After chanting you can have Yogi Tea and enjoy pot luck breakfast. Enjoy this wonderful day in honor of our teacher.
Happy Birthday Yogiji! We love you!
