Summer is my favorite season, because it means sunshine and trips to the beach. Whether it's a long-planned and much anticipated beach trip, or a last-minute weekend getaway, the beach is a wonderful time to get in touch with the fiery sun and the vast ocean. When you're packing all of your beach essentials, don't forget to bring your yoga music with you! Whether you're lounging in a beach chair, going for a morning jog, or doing some asanas on the sand, yoga music is a great way to enhance your mood and celebrate your trip!
Girish. Since the moment I first heard Girish singing “Ganapati” during a yoga class, I have associated him with sunshine. For me, his music evokes laid-back days, basking in the sunshine and taking in the sound of the waves. If you're spending time outdoors, Girish's music will make you feel cool and comfortable. If you're stuck inside, he'll give you a little piece of sunshine to lift your mood.
Harnam Singh. Have you ever had the experience of going to a small, sleepy beach town? The locals have opened up their city and it's rental spaces to beach-loving travelers everywhere. The visitors are loving every second of their getaways. And everyone smiles and says “hello” to each other, bound together in temporary community. Harnam's “No Stranger” is the anthem of this impromptu beach community! The uplifting message of Harnam's music is perfect match for that natural high you get from spending time at the beach.
Mc Yogi. While I have to admit that I typically like my beach music a little more laid-back, MC Yogi's hip-hop beats are too much fun not to include. Maybe it's those vacation endorphins kicking in, giving me more energy to run and play. The core tracks of Elephant Power never fail to pick me up and get me moving, and the Remixes are like a jolt to the heart. Warning: Bring extra water and sunscreen if listening to MC Yogi because you'll be having so much fun you won't even notice the heat!
Wah! There's no way around it, Wah! is cool. Her music is hip, and filled with so many layers of music and vocals, mantras and English messages about Love and Grace. Some of my favorite Wah! tracks are the “Soulshines” on Love Holding Love, but just about any of her music will have you celebrating life and feeling good.
Kundalini Remixes. Not everyone likes to create their own dance party or karaoke session on the beach. Some prefer to read a book, or simply sunbathe, keeping their music as a background participant. When I just want to chill out, while keeping a positive atmosphere, Kundalini Remixes is where it's at. Because it's not your typically mantra-driven album, you can luxuriate in the cool beats and instrumentals without getting so many strange looks from your non-yogi beach neighbors. At the same time, it does maintain mantra lines to lift the vibration of your patch of beach. Win-win!
