What is the Radiant Body (The 10th Body)?

Sunset Prayer

In the teachings of Kundalini Yoga, the human being has 10 bodies not 1. The 10th body is the Radiant Body and refers to a field of energy that extends 9 feet around us. Energy comes into the body through the crown chakra, goes up and down the spine picking up speed and then extends and builds up the Radiant Body. Some refer to the Radiant Body as a band that sits on top of the aura, almost like a golden tip or energy field.

A powerful 10th body makes one courageous and radiant. You project royalty and grace, both in how you act and how you present yourself. You carry yourself very well and have a special light about you. You are bold and have finesse and good things come to you without much effort. Your presence is magnetic and attention comes to you naturally. A weak 10th body makes you timid and fear conflict or recognition. You may have fluctuating energy and have difficulty with commitment.

There are many things you can do to strengthen the tenth body, including the following:

Sadhana

Spirit Voyage’s 40-Day Global Sadhana: Radiant Body incorporates a Kundalini Yoga kriya specifically for strengthening the Radiant Body, as well as a meditation for the same effect. The mantra we are using, Ajai Alai, is a mantra for great power and courage written by Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Guru of the Sikhs. The simple act of committing to a sadhana strengthens the Radiant Body.

Mantra
Mantras such as Ajai Alai, Har Har Mukunday, and Gobinday Mukunday are powerful tools to strengthen the tenth body and bring courage. Jaap Sahib, a prayerful poem written by Guru Gobind Singh, is also a potent way of strengthening the Radiant Body. Try choosing a mantra and chanting for 11 minutes!

Dress

Wearing white strengthens the Radiant Body by helping to reflect light throughout your field. It is said that just putting on white clothing boosts your aura 3 feet, and wearing it on a regular basis strengthens the 10th body. Wearing expressive jewelry can also boost this body, giving you the feeling of royalty and grace.

Hair

The hair is said to govern the tenth body. Cutting the hair diverts energy to its regrowth; leaving it uncut allows the body to divert that energy to the Radiant Body. If you ever feel your energy start to dip wash your hair, or brush it with a wooden comb. You’ll stimulate the energy meridians on the scalp and feel refreshed. Wrap it up on your head in a kind of crown and feel yourself stand a little straighter. Give it a try!

Yoga
11 minutes of Archer Pose on both sides of the body is a simple if challenging way to build up the Radiant Body.

Guru Gobind Singh
Connecting to the energy of this powerful warrior saint, the 10th Guru of Sikhs, helps you develop your own royal radiance and courage. He was a soul of absolute courage and compassion, of radiance and devotion.

Developing a strong and radiant 10th body makes your inner light shine forth for all to see. You recognize and realize your own power and strength and allow others to see it.

  1. I have a question. One point that was made is that the radiant body has nothing to do with the outside in comes from within. My question is is a person cuts their hair to donate it to little children who are suffering with cancer , isn’t that a act of compassion and kindness? Why would that dim the radiant body if it doesn’t come from the outside. Also are you saying that the Dali Lama and all the Tibetan monks who shave their heads are not radiant? I mean no disrespect to your tradition , I am really trying to understand. As I come from The Sri Vidya tradition where everything is Sri and a manifestation of God. Thank you for helping me understand this. All Blessings Zetta Rose

  4. Ahhhh. So great we are talking about our radiant body in such detail. As I was explaining, our radiant body extends out from our physical body. As Yogi Bhajan described it……our radiance preceeds us at all times. It has nothing to do with anything outside of you. What you want and crave is the source of your spirit’s light and glow. This is the source of your
enthusiasm and inner peace. You build it through the clear recitation of the SHAKTI MANTRA’s……all of GURU GOBIND SINGH”S prayers are SHAKTI MANTRA’s. The movement of the mouth & the tongue churning inside the mouth and the power of your breath…..this will build IT. Not important even to translate the words but know that they are
all in the language that builds this radiant body.
Tying a white turban over your uncut hair tied up into a rishi knot at the tenth gate will give you greater focus and personal focus.
