My favorite meditation CDs:
Before I began inhaling “Sat” and exhaling “Naam”, waking up before the sunrise, and taking “therapeutic” freezing cold showers, I was an avid hatha yogini. My practice involved awesome feats of flexibility, defying gravity, and testing my endurance. Physically, it felt very complete.
It wasn’t until I began practicing Kundalini Yoga that I understood the transformational power of meditation. My favorite part about Kundalini Meditations was the beautiful music that my teachers often played.
Kundalini Meditation CDs can be used for their original purpose, or passively listened to. Either way, the listener is benefitting from the healing vibrations of these uplifting mantras.
Here are my recommendations for some transformational meditation CDs:
Healing the Wounds of Love—Guru Raj Kaur and Nirinjan Kaur
I cannot recommend this CD enough. It helped me through a very troubling time in my life. If you or someone you love is struggling with a “broken heart”, this is a perfect present!
Hummee Hum Brahm Hum—Gurucharan S. Khalsa, Gurusangat Singh
Speaking of hearts, mine wells up when I listen to the tracks on this album. The CD includes 4 variations on the same mantra: one 31-minute meditation, three 11-minute meditations, and a beautiful explanation/introduction by Gurucharan himself.
I love this CD. I use it when I teach classes on the So Purkh. If you live in a very male household, or have relationships with men you’d like to heal, this CD is for you.
Tantric Sa Ta Na Ma—Simran Kaur Khalsa, Wah!, Guru Prem Singh Khalsa
“Sa Ta Na Ma” is a powerful mantra that everyone can easily learn. This is my favorite CD for practicing Kirtan Kriya (track 2), which is a meditation that helps to break habits, create emotional balance, and may help to prevent memory loss (according to an Alheimerz’s Research website I just perused).
Rakhe Rakhan Har—Snatam Kaur
Do I really need to tell you why listening to Snatam would feel good? This version of Rakhe Rakhan Har is 31-minutes long. It is the complimentary track for a sun energy meditation, which is absolutely blissful.
Honoring the Divine Feminine—Gurunam Singh
To find out more about Spirit Voyage’s Global Sadhana for Honoring the Divine Feminine, click here. The combination of Gurunam Singh and Michelle Hurtado’s voices makes me smile really wide!
Divine Birth—Snatam Kaur, Prabhu Nam Kaur
Know any expecting or current mothers? This CD is a must! It consists of the musical and yogic recitation version of two shabads Sikh women chant for their children. There is also a children’s “Adi Shakti” included, which you can sing with your children.
The Heart of Healing—Mirabai Ceiba
One 31-minute Ardas Bhaee and one 31-minute Guru Ram Das meditation on one CD: what a powerful team! Ardas Bhaee is a prayer that is “already granted”, and Guru Ram Das is the Lord of Miracles. My experiences with chanting these mantras have been miraculous indeed.
Mantras for Jaap Sahib—Cherdi Kala Jetha
Most of the mantras and shabads we chant in Kundalini Yoga are pure devotion—Bhakti mantras. The energy of Guru Gobind Singh, who wrote Jaap Sahib, is that of Shakti—embodiment and action. Not only did this group choose three very potent mantras from this long prayer, they will teach you how to pronounce them impecably if you listen attentively.
