Music for the Heart
Bachan Kaur is one of those people with such a big heart, just being around her puts a smile on your face. Her music is deeply meditative, infused with the sweet unjaded wonder of a newborn child. To listen to her melodies is to be transported into the Universal Heart.
Did I mention you will also be supporting a completely homegrown affair? Uh-huh!, Bachan Kaur is a do-it-yourself artist who does all her own recording and album artwork... she even has her own CD manufacturing system!
Spirit Voyage has 5 of her albums for you to choose from! I recommend wrapping up some of Bachan’s music this holiday season to give your friends and family a truly soul-touching experience.
I first heard the fourth track on this album—“Bountiful, Beautiful, Blissful”—in savasana in my teacher training. Bachan takes her sweet time developing this 14 minute track from a single voice and guitar into a sound symphony of her own layered vocals. It makes the listener feel they are beyond time, as one kind voice repeats “I Am, I Am” and another continues to repeat the original mantra. This album feels like a cozy rainy day spent indoors with a book and a cup of tea. Perfect for the wintry season ahead!
This album is slow, sensuous, and deeply calming. One of the things I find truly impressive about Bachan’s work is that you can feel her own meditation in listening to her songs. I love the sound effects of rain and birds and other creative uses of the recording medium. The second track on the album “Cosmic Cycles” maps the evolution of our Universe throughout the ages though sound and mantra. This track, as well as “Guru Ram Das Lullaby”, and “Prabhujee Daya Karo” are lovely soundtracks for quiet meditation or for relaxation in a yoga class or at home. Anahat is a great gift for someone who does any sort of healing work, or anyone in need of healing.
Lest you think all of Bachan’s music is slow and meditative... Illumination shows off her ability to fuse electronic beats, fun sound effects, with upbeat melodies. Bachan’s version of “Re Man Eh” is the only one I’ve heard that makes me want to wiggle. My favorite tracks are “Har Harei Hari” and, of course, her version of the heart mantra itself: “Guru Ram Das Chant.” This album is a beautiful blend of Bachan’s meditative heart and some fantastic homegrown electronic programming.
This is a beautiful Sadhana album, which includes the first appearance of one of my favorite “Rakhe Rakhanhar” melodies—later to be re-recorded by Sat Darshan and the Kirtan Caravan on Sadhana in the City. This album has all the sung Aquarian mantras on it, plus two bonus tracks—Bachan’s beautiful version of The Longtime Sun (“Long Time Sun Song”) and the “Bountiful Blissful Beautiful,” which would later become part of the Soul Songs Album.
(Editor's Note:
Mada Love --
This is Bachan's latest CD and she's worked with producer Mahan Kalpa Singh to make her vision come true. It's light and fun and great for dancing!)
