This felt like a funny mantra to write about. A mantra for status? Aren't spiritual people not supposed to care about things like status? And yet, Yogi Bhajan taught that the 21st pauri of Japji "will maintain your status, grace, and position" when recited 11 times per day. I felt some resistance to this idea. Grace, I can see, but status and position? But when I began to study the pauri itself slowly my resistance dissolved and I understood.
Status and position are an honor. They're not an underlying suggestion that some people are better than others, but simply that some occupy different roles than others. The key to my understanding was this passage: "Sabh gun tere mai naahi koe. Vin gun kite bhagat na hoe. Suast aath baani barmaao. Sat suhaan sadaa man chaao." This line basically says that all virtues and honors belong to God (whatever that means to you), and without some of that grace falling back to us, we cannot truly serve. To me, this means that all things belong to the Divine, status and position as well, and that only by being in the flow with Creation do these things fall to us, for the purpose using them in service of all Life.
If you feel that you may be in danger of losing your job, try connecting with this mantra and see if the strength that it gives you doesn't strengthen your position. It certainly can't hurt.

Tirath tap dayaa dat daan. Je ko paavai til kaa maan.
Suniaa manniaa man kitaa bhaao. Antargat tirath mal naao.
Sabh gun tere mai naahi koe.

Thit vaar na jogi jaanai, rut maah naa koi.
Jaa kartaa sirthi kau saaje, jaanai soi.
Kiv kar aakhaa kiv saalaahi, kio varni kiv jaana.
Naanak aakhan sabhu ko aakhai, ik du ik siaanaa.
Vadaa Saahib vadi naai, kitaa jaa kaa hovai.
Naanak je ko aapau jaanai, agai gayaa na sohai.
