2011 was an amazing year for yoga music. So many wonderful albums came out, with styles that can please a wide range of musical tastes. Although it's difficult to make a definitive list of my favorites, a few albums jumped to mind immediately when I started thinking about it. While taste in yoga music may differ from person to person, I think many of these albums have broad appeal!
Here are some of my favorite Kundalini yoga music albums!
Jai-Jagdeesh's I Am Thine – Jai-Jagdeesh has the voice of an angel. She carries and transmits so much emotion when she sings, and it will hit you right in the heart. Beware listening to this album while driving, because the urge to close your eyes and bask in the power of this album are sometimes overpowering! I love the diversity of tracks, from the perky “Ong Namo Guru Dayvaa” to the heartbreaking sensitivity of “Aap Sahaaee Hoa,” there is a song for every mood and every emotion on I Am Thine.

Harnam's A Fearless Heart – Released only a few short weeks ago, A Fearless Heart ends the year on a high note! Harnam uses his great guitar playing and accessible English song writing to create an album that will lift you up and give you a glimpse of your limitless potential. I love to listen to it while doing yoga, sitting at home, and driving around town. I believe “Shine” is destined to be many people's favorite track, played over and over again as we all get in touch our own fearless hearts.

GuruGanesha Singh's Kundalini Surjhee -When GuruGanesha was on the Spirit Voyage radio show talking about his new album, he mentioned that he can do whatever he wants now that he's 61 years old. If that's true, I hope he keeps on doing whatever he likes. Kundalini Surjhee is an incredible album, with a diverse range of musical styles. My personal favorite track is “Aval Allah,” an intense and powerful track composed by Professor Paramjeet Singh and spiced up by GuruGanesha!

Snatam Kaur's Ras – This is a very mature release from Snatam Kaur, and each song is filled with emotion. Ras is a journey through different aspects of devotion to the Divine, and Snatam is the perfect artist to lead the way. I love the mix of poetry and mantra on “Earth Prayer,” and the meditative “Chattr Chakkr.” The instrumentals of guest artists like Manose and Benjy Wertheimer are also incredible!

Kundalini Remix – Yoga music is a great aid for meditation, this well all know. But with Kundalini Remix we learned that it's also great for throwing your own Kundalini dance party! So many fantastic Djs and remixers participated in the creation of the songs on this album, giving us amazing tracks like “Dukh Par Har (Desert Dwellers Breaks Remix)” and “Jai Te Gung (Ran Salman's Radio Mix).” It's not your typical yoga music album, and that's what makes it so wonderful!

A few of the many wonderful runner-up albums:
The Music Within by SatDarshan Singh and Sirgun Kaur
Honoring the Divine Feminine by Gurunam Singh
The Alchemist's Prayer by Ram Dass
Awakened Earth by Mirabai Ceiba
Mother by Aykanna
