This week's song is "Gunpati Mantra" from Livtar from his CD The Sound Current.
The Gunpati mantra is "Sa Ta Na Ma Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Say So Hung".
"The Sound Current" emanates devotion with a raw, stripped-down simplicity and warm authenticity.
The current is carried by Livtar's unique voice that is at once strong and vulnerable, mysterious and familiar. The natural warmth and depth of his vocals make you feel right at home.
He opens the doors of the heart and welcomes you in to take a rest, reflect and remember; The album invokes an effortless desire to sing along and dwell in the sacredness of the moment.
Livtar's name refers to the longing of the soul to merge with the divine. His sound is filled with an unmistakeable longing that is beautifully mirrored in the yearning strings of the violin, guitar, and steel pedal. The album weaves a coherent tapestry of instruments and sounds, both eastern and western, ancient and innovative.
Appropriately named "The Sound Current", each song feels like a refreshing drink drawn from the sonic stream of creation. This is the first offering of many to come, from a modern day bhakti yogi whose love for sound and mantra is contagious.
Livtar is a musician, writer, painter, and teacher of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan. Follow him on Facebook!
Livtar has traveled extensively and been a spiritual seeker since his youth. He discovered Kundalini Yoga at the age of sixteen upon meeting Yogi Bhajan and his love for music as a creative outlet expanded into using mantra. He has been practicing and teaching Kundalini Yoga for more than a decade. Livtar is self taught in playing the guitar, harmonium, and gong. The ability to play music, he found, comes from the heart and he enjoys it most when the mind gets out of the way and he, himself, becomes an instrument through which the music can flow. He also says,"remembering who we are is a daily process in which we relate to the creative influence inside and that expression must be shared when the opportunity is provided."
Livtar currently lives in Phoenix, Arizona and teaches weekly yoga classes at Yoga Phoenix, leads kirtan events and workshops,
and serves as a Teacher Trainer for the KRI Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training program.
