When Snatam Kaur visited Washington DC in 2007 we recorded her version of the chant Akal for those souls who had lost their lives in the Virginia Tech shooting. We have offered it as a free mp3 download.
Akal is chanted as a prayer to liberate the soul from the body and merge with god. Often it is recited by inhaling deeply and chanting 3 or more times at the time of a persons death.
Nothing brings perspective in life like the awareness of one's own physical mortality. The practice of remembering death is called Jivan Mukti. Also translated as a "fully realized human being", this meditative practice helps clarify life's priorities and bestows gratitude for the time we have on this earth. Enjoy the free download and may it help you become a fearless, fully realized human being.
