FloresTRONIC: Mirabai Ceiba on the 10th Anniversary Remix of Flores

We’re thrilled to announce the release of FloresTRONIC, Mirabai Ceiba’s new electronic dance remix in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Flores, their Spanish language album debut.  We recently caught up with Markus Seiber of Mirabai Ceiba to find out more about this project.

Q: What was your inspiration for this album?

A: The 10 the anniversary of our debut album Flores.

Q: What makes this album different from the rest of the albums in your catalog?

A: It’s a completely different style: electronic dance music.  It approaches these “old’ tunes in a very new and fresh way. It’s something we never have done and it was more a fun project then anything else.

Q: Can you share a story from the making of this album?

A: When the first rough mixes came in our children really re-acted strongly to it, they loved it so much and wanted to dance to it all day long. My brother’s children had the same kick with this music.

Q: Is there something that your fans would love to know from the making of this album?

A: The EP has been re-mixed by my (Markus’s) brother for most of the songs, and one by Rylan Peery , who was actually working as assistant of Thomas Barquee in the studio when we recorded Flores in 2004 . For Rylan it was a beautiful chance to close a cycle by having his own creative input in doing his remix. For me it was really special to work with my brother together in a musical field I have actually no experience in .

Q: Are there any special contributors to this album? If so, tell us about them!

A: My brother Nick Alex built a whole new world around these songs, so the song became completely new identities, yet born from the same original idea and essence. Also Rylan Peery did a great job on his remix.
