Artist Interview: Ramdesh Kaur Invites You To Fall In Love With Your Body Temple (Part 2 of 2)

(Part 2 of a 2 part interview with Ramdesh – Read part 1 here.)

Ramdesh is a beautiful, radiant yogini inside and out. Her commitment to sharing the teachings of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan (R) is unparalleled. She is a force of nature – prolific in her writing, her guided meditations, & as the host of the Spirit Voyage Radio with Ramdesh…which has been completely dedicated educating and inspiring people around the globe with her passion for Kundalini Yoga & mantras.

Ramdesh is on a mission to revolutionize the way we feel about our bodies. As mainstream media continues its brainwashing campaign designed to make us all reach for an unattainable standard of beauty, Ramdesh invites us to embrace our body and to begin to recognize and treat it as the temple that it truly is. Ramdesh is the perfect example of being authentically true to your life and your experiences. As we embrace who and what we are and share ourselves with the world, we honor our Soul and allow others to feel and experience the benefits of our wisdom. This is how true healing happens. We are honored to share this interview with you, as Ramdesh discusses the creation of The Body Temple: Guided Meditations For Radical Self-Love and her own Kundalini Yoga practice with us.

Spirit Voyage: Can you tell us a little bit about who you are – what your passions are?

the body temple 300Ramdesh: I love Kundalini Yoga and mantra, of course. But I also love to travel. I’ve lived in the US, UK, France, Italy and India. My heart is on the road, immersing myself in other cultures and traditions. I am deeply connected to ancient spiritual wisdom from all lands…from the land of India, but also the Celtic traditions and Native American traditions.

Spirit Voyage: What are three things you hope to accomplish in your lifetime?

Ramdesh: That’s an awfully big question! I’d like to leave behind more love than I take. I’d like to help some people have a gentler road. And I’d like to live with a spirit of adventure. And if I could have a 4th…I’d really love to write a lot of books.

Spirit Voyage: Can you give us a sneak peek into your creative process?

Ramdesh: I always start with music. I listen to the music that is calling me to record with it, that has something it wants to share. Then from that music, I literally begin to see a journey, a meditation, or even an affirmation in front of me. It appears always as images or as words. I record myself and then go back to the recording and see if from that channeling state there’s something that needs to be shared. I tweak the wording a bit for flow and then we record the final version in a take or two. But its always what I see, or what I experience when I ask my higher self to reveal a process to achieve something within. The only exception to that is the conscious eating meditation on this album, which was inspired by the conscious eating meditations given by Yogi Bhajan, the master of Kundalini yoga.

Spirit Voyage: How did come to start practicing Kundalini Yoga?

Ramdesh: I found it through the music of Snatam Kaur like so many people. I loved the mantras, and the yoga was a natural evolution of that.

Spirit Voyage: What do you love most about your kundalini yoga practice?

Ramdesh: I love how fast it works. Even within a few minutes, I can feel more centered and peaceful.

Spirit Voyage: What do you hope your listeners experience or learn as they listen to your album?

Ramdesh: Self-love. Self-love. Self-love. Compassion. Kindness. Gentleness. I hope people wake up to how radical it is to love themselves deeply, and I hope the meditations help them flip negative thinking in their minds into a positive narrative.

Spirit Voyage: Is there anything else you would like to share with us?

Ramdesh: I dedicated this album to my mother, who taught me the art of guided meditation as a child. She would lead me on them to help me go to sleep and unwind because I was a rather fearful child around bedtime. I love her so much. Her name is Rev. Dr. Carol Lawson, and I really think she’s a saint. I’m not sure my guided meditations will ever live up to the memories I have of hers, but I hope I can share some of her energy and spirit of love through my words.
