 Stevin McNamara has been active in the music business forover 40 years, where he has gained a reputation not only as an accomplishedcomposer/musician, but also as a sought-after recording engineer. Born in South Africa, Stevin started learning piano andguitar at the age of seven, and played solo and in bands all the way throughhigh school. At 21, Stevin moved to the US, where he received formal trainingat Berklee College of Music. Although Stevin grew up with the sounds of African music, hediscovered Indian music in the early 70s and studied the sitar with RamChakravarty at Wesleyan College. This diverse exposure to such a broad spectrumof music, ranging from World to Pop has contributed to the development of hisunique musical style. In the late 70s, after spending considerable time as a session musician, Stevin becamefascinated with what was happening on the "other side of the glass" -a passion that developed into a highly successful career as an audio engineer,where he has worked with well-known producers such as Robert John"Mutt" Lange and a wide spectrum of high-profile recording artists,including Tina Turner, Sting, Def Leppard, Phish, k.d. lang, Zakir Hussain anddozens of others. Stevin now lives In Ashland, Oregon, where he spends histime doing freelance recording, original music production, live performancesand Organic gardening. |
