 Michael H. Cohen leads high-powered, fun and accessible Kirtan events that blend Eastern spirituality with Western musical influences. His music is an expression of the Dattatreya lineage of Swami Kaleshwar (www.kaleshwar.org) and Shirdi Sai Baba as expressed by his primary teacher, Philip Lipetz. After a career as a jazz saxophonist, Michael attended his first yoga class in 2000, where he immediately fell in love with the sacred practice of Kirtan. Michael and his group, which features vocalists Joni Allen and Allie Stringer, tour the US and beyond, offer high-energy and heart opening Kirtan events. They also offer Kirtan workshops that guide beginning and experienced chanters alike into a deeper experience with this ancient practice by working through the lenses of leadership, musicianship and spirituality/energetics. His recent release, Om Dattatreya: Journey to the West was recently called "chantable, interesting, and addictive" by Yoga Chicago Magazine. |
