| | | | Japji Sahib Artist/Author: WAH! Product Type : CDS List Price : $29.99

| | Description | [Triple CD]
As the story is told, Nanak was making his ablutions in the river one day and his body sank to the bottom. He remained submerged for 3 days. When he finally re-emerged from the river, he was transformed. It was from this very moment, he began his teaching.
The words of Japji are the first words he spoke. They describe all the pitfalls of spiritual work, as well as the incredible blessings one can receive through steady perseverance of meditative life. The paths to God are limitless, and all paths lead to the same place. Nanak said God cannot be found by speaking or remaining silent, neither by bathing at the places of pilgrimage nor by giving in charity.
Nanak described incredible states of consciousness, which he himself had experienced - the realms of the earth, heavens, and beyond. He described the vision, which every spiritual seeker yearns for... a vision of God revealed. The whole Universe unveiled before the eyes of the seeker. ?That vision is beyond description.? says Nanak. It is impossible to describe. Each soul has to find it on his or her own.
It took 3 years to complete this project. Translating, composing, and singing. The ashram at that time was filled with artists - painters, musicians, dancers, and poets. They inspired me to take on such a large project, and to do it artistically. Because the ashram was in NYC, we were always receiving guests travelling through to India. These people helped me with my pronunciation and corrected my translations. Working on Japji trained my mind. It taught me the guidelines for spiritual life. It gave me an idea what I could expect as I started on the spiritual path.
We recorded this project in 2 weekends. It is hard to believe, now, after being part of the commercial music industry, where projects are recorded and mixed over several months. Perhaps it was because this was only a hobby for me; or perhaps I was too young to know any better. But for 3 days straight, on two separate weekends, I sang, we played and mixed every track that you now hear. Everything was done in one take. We mixed analog, correcting mistakes manually. I donated the multi-track tape to The Recording Workshop, so their students could practice mixing. The masters were stored somewhere in Nashville. When the world went digital, the reel-to-reel masters were sent to Seva, my mastering engineer. He baked the tapes and recorded them digitally, and from there the masters were lost. Mysteriously reappearing 3 years later, much the same as Nanak, the music seemed like a jewel.
The spiritual path is possible for us because of those who have walked it before. They leave signs along the way for us to follow. Take a saint and study his or her words, study her actions, absorb yourself in his experiences. Tell me you will not emerge the better for it. | | | |

---------------------------------------------------- In Wah`s Words: The CD titled EMBRACE is a collection of songs in English written about Ammachi, a saint from Southern India. Over the last 13 years, her example as a spiritually expanded being has been a great inspiration for me. I wanted to contribute something to her ongoing relief efforts for disaster victims (Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, etc) for which she has pledged over 23 million dollars. The proceeds from the sale of this CD will go directly to her efforts in this regard.
In 1993, I was introduced to an electrician in Santa Fe, NM named Vyasa. He had been asked by his Guru to make a CD of devotees singing sacred songs. Inquiring how he was to accomplish this without any knowledge or training, his Guru said, "Buy a computer and hire professionals to help you. Let the devotees do the singing." I was brought in as a musical consultant to help on this project and thus began my relationship with Amma .
The CDs, called "English Bhajans" were produced annually. Two types of songs were recorded - English translations of traditional bhajans (songs) or new songs written by devotees. I helped with both. In 2002, when Herb Graham Jr. was asked to oversee the annual recordings, I was asked to contribute some original songs. I wrote two songs and recorded them. I did the same in 2003. Wings of Peace was Volume VII of the English Bhajan series; This World was Volume VIII.
In 2004, I didn`t have time to be involved in the CD project but at the last minute they needed a song to make the CD complete. I offered Can You Save Me but was unable to produce the recording properly or add tracks to make it sound complete. When the opportunity arose to make this compilation, I jumped at the chance to make this song complete and present it to Amma.
The 2005 Amma tour left me with a heart wide open. Paul and I decided to record some songs I had written for Amma but never recorded, plus two new songs. It was a beautiful experience, we sat together in the control room and recorded all four songs in a week`s time. Production, editing and mixing happened over the next 12 months, in between work on Savasana*2, a new CD called "wah! remixed" and playtime.
Gena Kennedy from Nashville, TN offered to do the graphics for this project. Although she had never met Amma, she felt she had been introduced through the music, and wanted to help with this charitable cause. Good hearts have a way of finding each other, don`t you think? Gena found a beautiful Shree Yantra for the CD stomp and came forward with an exquisite looking package.
Seva mastered the project, doing no less than the impossible with varying mixes, sound quality, production and formats. And then we presented it to Amma in June 2006 with love and blessings. Her presence has helped me manifest a sweet embrace in my life and that has made such a difference.
